First lecture 27.07. -10:00:Overview and Ornamentation
Second lecture 28.07.- 10:00 : rethoric and declamation

With this lectures and lessons we focus on the Romantic "Lied" with regard to historically informed performance. What form did ornamentation and declamation take in Romantic song at the beginning of the 19th century, and what role did "manners" play?
How can I, the interpreter of the "Lied", do justice to the songs? Do I not have to consider and incorporate also the treatment in historical performance practise? Embellishments were definitely used also in the early Romantic period. It is at all times considered an essential part of all interpretations.
So what can we learn about the art and practice in the use of embellishments in the Romantic Lied? Were there special types of embellishments and declamations developed for the Romantic "Lied" at the beginning of the 19th century? How important were manner and style?

Bettina Pahn:
I am a singer dedicated to the art of performing songs working especially on the Italian and German repertoire for voice, starting from the early Renaissance to the Romantic Lied. I`m teaching a class at the university of arts Bremen on early music singing. For my lessons I studied pertinent sources and many texts dealing with manner and embellishments which proved that embellishments were definitely used also in the early Romantic period. It is at all times considered an essential part of all interpretations.

review in class aktuell Ausgabe 02/2022:
Bettina Pahn ist im romantischen Lied versiert und erfahren wie kaum eine andere deutschsprachige Sopranistin.
Diese geballte Erfahrung macht sich vom ersten Moment bemerkbar :Ihre lyrische Stimmfärbung ist ideal geeignet für dieses Repertoire, und ihre Phrasierung und Deklamation wirken durch und durch stimmig und natürlich, sozusagen wie selbstverständlich…“
